The South Texas Civil Rights Project’s awards reception honoring Rebecca Flores, of the UFW, Francisco Guajardo, of UTPA and Llano Grande Center, and Rick Diaz, of KRGV – TV 5, will be held on June 14 at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. Registration and reception begins at 6:30pm and awards program at 7:30pm.

The reception will honor former United Farm Worker Texas Director, Rebecca Flores. Flores has worked tirelessly for nearly 30 years for the community and UFW members to improve the working and living conditions of people all over the state.

The reception will also honor University of Texas Pan American Professor, Francisco Guajardo, Ph.D. Guajardo, as Executive Director and co-founder of the Llano Grande Center for Research and Development, has worked with students and families from Edcouch-Elsa to help revitalize the educational, cultural, civic, and economic life of the area and expand horizons for students.

In addition, the reception will honor Rick Diaz of KRGV – TV 5. Diaz has blazed trails for Latino journalists in his nearly 40 years working for KRGV. He most recently has shown his dedication to the community through work on the “Con Mi Gente,” by rasing awareness of the lives of individuals in the community.

Again, please consider publicizing this event, as it will attract attention to the civil and human rights community in the Rio Grande Valley.
